A lifelong journey in the martial arts

Master Roody Etienne's path in the martial arts began in the early 1980s, when his late mother enrolled him in Kyokushin Karate. Her belief in the transformative power of martial arts planted a seed that would define his life.

After his mother's passing, Master Etienne channelled his grief into his training, transitioning to World Taekwondo (WT) where he earned his 2nd Dan black belt in the early 1990s. Seeking a deeper connection to traditional values and technique, he made the move to ITF Taekwon-Do in the mid-1990s — a decision that would shape the rest of his career.

As a competitor, Master Etienne reached the very top of the sport — earning the Caribbean Grand Champion title in the Dominican Republic (1996), Pan American Champion titles in Argentina (2004) and Guatemala (2006), USA Champion titles in the United States (2005 & 2007), and Canada National Champion (2017). He also represented his country at the ITF World Championships in Australia (2005). He is an ITF Certified Umpire, bringing the same precision and integrity to officiating that defined his championship career.

Today, Master Etienne holds a 7th Dan black belt under the International Taekwon-Do Federation, one of the highest ranks in the art. His decades of experience across three disciplines — and a championship résumé few can match — give him a rare, well-rounded perspective that he brings to every class.
